Hi, I’ve just passed Lanzhou and am going for Inner Mongolia now. The last two days brought 180km each day and I hope to continue at that speed to Beijing. Till then, Daniel.

    Well done Daniel,

Not far to go now, keep it up.

If you have any trouble near Yinchuan, there is one of the original Chinese team members living there. He gave up on the ride to open a bike store. His shop is located very close to the square in the centre, but I can’t remember the name. The shop front is red colour. It is NOT the Giant shop. His hame is Ding Bing Ning. They have a guest book in there, you’ll find our names!

After that there are no more big cities all the way to Beijing if you are careful. We didn’t bother going in to Zhangzhiakou, or Jining. The roads bypass them. The volume of coal trucks will increase after Jining, though it is never as bad as route 109. The centre of the coal area is around Datong (The road from Datong joins 110 near Jining)

Don’t trust the map. Virually all of ours were a little wrong with respect to the exact position of the motorway, in relation to the “old” 110. Keep a look out for nice sections of 110 too, it can be carfree but new seal in places.

    Good luck

    Olly

Well, nice to hear you are doing so well. You are really fast! Don’t forget to also look around and don’t just let everything pass you by. You will probably never go through same places again.

See you next year on Spezi :)
    Best regards from Slovenia

The landscape has changed a lot since I left the high plateaus! And the visibility has gone down extremely - 4 to 5km at the best, often less than 1km due to fog, smog or dust. Inner Mongolia is not the most interesting place (desert mostly) but I get pretty good entertainment from the police who tries many things to get me off the expressway :-P Don’t think I’ll be at _next_ years SPEZI, but a year later for sure *g*
