Attention: Please participate in my poll. I am interested in how many readers want to read my travelogue in English and how many in German, so please tell me what language I shall write in for you. An please only vote once in the right sidebar and comment if you can’t vote for technical reasons!
I’ve been here in Adelaide for 5 days now and had a really interesting time. Together with my great host Olly I’ve visited the Australia Day in the city center, we went to the Tour Down Under final and had a few rides through Adelaide and to the beach in the evening. I got to know the basic rules of the cricket game and watched a test match of Australia against India (the two big cricket nations) over 5 days on television. Ollys small library on alternative transport and carfree living also got plenty of my attention.
As you might have noticed I also updated some parts of my homepage, created new, randomly changing image headers taken from the adventures I’ve come through so far and modified the style of the sidebar to create more interaction with you, my readers!
When I arrived at the Australia Day Parade in the center of Adelaide I was surprised how many people had come - but Olly told me that they were only passing by for the cricket
Anyway, we were just located next to the VIP seats which had been placed totally in the sun, as a Red Rooster advertisement would say: “They are best when they are red!”
The parade mirrored most of the Australian history and the settlements in South Australia. First a truck with Aboriginal people was passing, followed by many bands, military convoys, firefighters (very typical for Australia) and clubs. In between the clubs was a penny farthing cycling club, an acrobatic club (on unicycles), a rifle club and several motor clubs and so on.
The crowd was shocked when in the middle of the parade a military jet rumbled in a low level flight over the parade.
Probably the most interesting part of the parade was when the communities each represented their origin - a picture that perfectly reflected my experience so far: Australia is a totally multicultural country with dozens of origin nations, many from the surrounding islands and Asia but even more from Europe, people with islamic background from nations like Iran, Afghanistan and Iraq, African nations and South Americans. There are not many countries like this and the Australians are proud of that fact.
The bike rides through Adelaide brought me to the beautiful city center with a big lake for leisure activity and through kilometers of suburbs and along the meandering turns of low level Torrens river to the wonderful beach in the western part of the city. For the sprint of the final Tour Down Under stage on Sunday afternoon we had unfortunately been a minute too late but it was still interesting to see the upcoming excitement of the Australians about bicycle races.

Hallo Daniel,
Learning by reading……

Hab meine Noten bekommen!!!
@Schlossgeister und Andi: I’ve realized that I started to think English and in phone calls home I often mixed my German with English expressions or grammar. So I think it’s time start training to think in German again
And the majority of the readers who voted want me to write in German, so that’s what I’ll do until the next survey *g*
